Nestled in the small mountain hamlet of Hollis, Arkansas, along Scenic Highway 7 in the heart of the Ouachita National Forest, the Hollis Country Store stands as a living piece of rural Arkansas history.
The original stone structure, built between 1931 and 1932, forms the core of the store and was constructed by Mike Gross and William “Bill” Furr. In 1940, Dennis and Lillie Crain purchased the property, and now, 86 years later, the Crain family history continues with the 4th generation, Donnie and Gena, who carry on the rural country store tradition.
In recognition of its historical and cultural significance, this beloved store was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
